How to Get Your Arkansas CDL License

Hold a valid noncommercial Arkansas license
You need a valid noncommercial Arkansas driver's license before applying, and must be at least 18 to drive commercially within Arkansas, or 21 to cross state lines or transport hazardous materials, under federal rules that apply nationwide.
Get your DOT medical certificate
Complete a DOT medical examination confirming you meet federal physical standards to operate a commercial vehicle.

Pay the fee and pass the knowledge test(s)
Pay the $50 knowledge test fee and pass the General Knowledge test, plus combination-vehicle and air-brake tests if applicable.
Receive your CLP at no additional charge
Your commercial learner's permit carries no separate fee and is valid for six months from issuance.
Complete entry-level driver training (ELDT)
Since February 2022, federal rule requires theory and behind-the-wheel training through an authorized provider before applying for your first CDL.
Schedule and pass the skills test
Book the skills test: a pre-trip inspection and an on-road driving evaluation for the CDL class you applied for.
Pay the license fee and receive your CDL
Once you pass, pay the $42 CDL license fee to receive your Class A, B, or C commercial driver's license, with any endorsements reflecting the additional tests you passed.

- Commercial drivers are held to a 0.04% BAC threshold, half the standard 0.08% figure that applies to a regular passenger-vehicle driver.
