Under 18
Complete the Motorcycle Rider Education Program
An applicant under 18 must complete the Motorcycle Rider Education Program, with an application signed by a parent or guardian.

Apply for the endorsement at 17
The minimum age for a Delaware motorcycle endorsement is 17. Pass the 25-question knowledge test (80%, 20 correct).
Pass the skills test
Schedule and pass a skills test to complete the endorsement process.
Follow helmet requirements
Wear a helmet and eye protection until age 19, and separately for 2 years from the date the endorsement is issued, regardless of age.
18 and Older
Pass the written exam for a temporary instruction permit
Pass the written motorcycle exam to receive a temporary instruction permit, valid 6 months and extendable once for a $5 fee.
Practice under the instruction permit
Use the permit period to build riding skill before the skills test.
Pass the skills test and receive your endorsement
Once you pass, the motorcycle endorsement is added to your existing driver's license.
Follow the 2-year helmet requirement
Wear a helmet and eye protection for 2 years from the date the endorsement is issued, regardless of age. Past that window, a rider 20 or older must still carry a helmet and eye protection even though wearing them becomes optional.
