Apply for a motorcycle instruction permit

Pass the written knowledge test
Pass the 30-question motorcycle knowledge test (80%, 24 correct) — 10 fewer questions than the state's 40-question regular permit test.
Wear required protective gear while practicing
A rider under 21, or one licensed less than a year, must wear a DOT-approved helmet. A passenger must be 21 or older to ride helmet-free, even if the operator qualifies for the exemption.
Pass the skills evaluation at 18
