How to Get Your Nevada Permit License

Apply for an instruction permit at 15½

Apply at a DMV office or through KnowToDrive; a parent or guardian must be present or reachable to sign a financial responsibility statement. Pass the computer-adaptive knowledge test (80%, stopping at 20 correct or 6 incorrect) and a vision test.

• Certification of Attendance (DMV 301) if aged 14-17

Drive only with a qualifying supervisor

A licensed driver at least 21 years old, who has held their own license for at least 1 year, must be seated next to you at all times.

Log 50 or 100 hours of supervised driving

Log 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night) if you complete a 30-hour driver education course, or 100 hours without one.

Hold the permit at least 6 months

Nevada requires holding the instruction permit for at least 6 months before applying for a full license.

Maintain a clean 6-month record

Have no at-fault accidents, moving violation convictions, or drug/alcohol convictions in the 6 months before applying.

Apply for your full license at 16

Once you've turned 16 and met the holding-period, supervised-hour, and clean-record requirements, receive a full license.

Follow restricted license rules for 6 months

No passengers under 18 unless immediate family. No unsupervised driving 10 p.m.-5 a.m., except for work, school, or an emergency.
