How to Get Your Oklahoma Motorcycle License

The actual step-by-step process, from application to full license — not just what's on the exam. Confirm anything time-sensitive (fees, forms) with Service Oklahoma directly.

  1. Apply for a motorcycle learner permit at 14

    Apply at a Service Oklahoma Licensing Office; you must hold a valid Class D license or be concurrently enrolled in driver education. Pass the motorcycle knowledge test and a vision test.

  2. Pass the written knowledge test

    Pass the 25-question motorcycle knowledge test (80%, 20 correct) — half the state's 50-question regular permit test.

  3. Ride within permit restrictions if under 16

    Ride only from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., accompanied by and receiving instruction from someone at least 21 years old.

  4. Complete an MSF course if 14-18

    Successfully complete a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course before earning the endorsement.

  5. Hold the permit at least 30 days

    Hold the motorcycle learner permit for at least 30 days before becoming eligible for the full endorsement.

  6. Pass the skills test at 16

    Pass the motorcycle skills evaluation to have the endorsement added to your license.

Notes

  • Oklahoma's helmet law covers anyone under 18, and separately any permit holder regardless of age; a fully licensed rider 18+ isn't required to wear one but it's strongly recommended.
  • Summer heat can soften asphalt and fatigue a rider on a long ride — a hazard worth factoring into trip planning.
