How to Get Your South Carolina Motorcycle License

  1. Apply for a motorcycle permit

    Apply at an SCDMV office; you'll need to pass the motorcycle knowledge test and a vision screening.

  2. Pass the written knowledge test

    Pass the 30-question motorcycle knowledge test (80%, 24 correct) — the same length as the regular permit test.

  3. Wear required protective gear while practicing

    If you're under 21, you must wear a DOT-approved helmet and eye protection unless the motorcycle has a windscreen.

  4. Pass the road test

    Pass the motorcycle road test at an SCDMV office to have the motorcycle endorsement added to your license.
