How to Get a CDL Permit in Texas

Federal rules generally require a CLP applicant to be at least 18 for intrastate driving (within Texas only) or 21 for interstate driving, hold a valid regular driver's license, and provide proof of identity, residency, and Social Security number.

You'll also need a current DOT medical certificate from an examiner listed on the FMCSA's National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners, confirming you meet the physical qualifications to operate a commercial vehicle.
