Requirements To obtain a Connecticut Learner's Permit:


You must be at least 16 years of age.
You must pass a vision test
You must take and pass a 25-question driving knowledge written test.
NOTE: The learner's permit will be valid until you obtain a driver's license or 2 years from the date it is issued (whichever comes first).

A learner's permit is required before you begin practicing road driving. A permit holder must carry a learner's permit whenever he or she is operating a vehicle.

The Driving Knowledge Test


The knowledge written test consists of 25 questions and you need to answer at least 20 correctly in order to pass. You must pass the driving knowledge written test
before you will receive a learner's permit. The test is based on the information contained in Connecticut driver's manual.

Types of Connecticut Driver's Licenses

Class A License – Combination Vehicles
Class B License – Heavy Straight Vehicles
Class C License - Small Vehicles
Class D - a Class D license may be used to operate any motor vehicle except a commercial motor vehicle.
Class A, B, C are for commercial motor vehicles, Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL), Class D is a non-Commercial Driver's License.
